08/st. vincent/st. vincent
annie clark is still holding for the laugh. at multiple points throughout her spectacular fourth album as st. vincent, she wonders aloud if this is all some sort of joke. it has to be, right? more connected than ever, and still unaccessible. st. vincent wants all of your mind; to mean more than she means to you. she wants to connect. with st. vincent, annie clark seeks out the organic in a digital world, needing a break from the twenty-first century and its distractions, zeros, and ones. st. vincent is also a fantastically elastic guitar record that balances itself out with lush and concise softer moments, as is heard on the gripping final track, severed crossed fingers. an exasperated clark chants enough, enough, enough til it reaches a crescendo. your way of living is no longer entertaining for her. fortunately for us, her quest for genuine connection and all the observations made along the way are.
