dude... incredible. : the albums, 2014.

23/jenny lewis/the voyager

she put her head underwater
she took a blanket into the bath and wore all black
sleeping with bros
whiskey and coke
locked in a bathroom full of tears
breaking your heart
loving you forever
in a life well lived and still in progress, that never ceases to amaze and develop
jenny lewis
the voyager...

it's been six years since we last heard from ms. lewis, and in that time she's reflected and reminisced, continuously evaluating her station in life as well as what comes next til she was comfortable enough to come out of the dark; realizing that still, despite it all, "there's a little bit of magic" left within her. that "there's a little bit of sand left in the hourglass..." life goes on, and so does she, and the voyager is the sound of a woman once on the verge of a nervous breakdown using her words and instrument(s) to break through and converse with the world at large from a purer and more assured place. The breezy and familiar sun drenched highways of so cal's pop rock stations that she and ryan adams embrace here remain as clear and constant as ever as jenny proves once again that she is indeed, underneath it all, the realest. that sometimes you have to step outside yourself  and take stock of who you are and where you've been in order to stay on track and push forward.
