at the top of 2014 we didn't know we needed a new pharrell williams album, but we needed a new pharrell williams album. this pharrell williams album. presently, male fronted r&b is involved (or enamored?) with disloyal jezebels and harlots, totally disinterested in romancing the stone or stealing your heart. with g i r l we get a much needed break from the current, and take it back to a time where funk & r&b musicians gave it their all for two things: the groove and your heart (and your loins. okay, yes, that too). shouts to the influences that came before us: stevie, prince, r. james, earth, wind, & them, etc. g i r l is for the ladies who knock us off our feet. our cherie amours. sugar pie honey bunch. it's pharrell matured. the neptunes sound expanded; thickened and smoothed around the edges. a love letter to all the it girls making you feel brand new. love's in need of love today, and g i r l answers this call.
