dude... incredible. : the albums, 2014.

21/owen pallett/in conflict

strings go pop and we go ballistic. and blips and beeps can often come off as misplaced or contrived. but sometimes, just sometimes, an artist gets it right, and the strings and synths and tinkering of the keys become more than just accessories. they illuminate the atmosphere, become an extension of the artist's intentions, emotion, or thoughts, providing weight where words escape or aren't even needed. and in 2014, no one meshed the worlds of classical composition and pop music as earnestly and skillfully as owen pallett does here on in conflict. there's an urgency to each and every song here thematically dealing with this present day life, constantly in flux. and owen pushes the music to the same dizzying heights you expect when anxiety/love/simply just living or being caught up in the moment overtakes you. it's a majestic tour de force; his own private sonic fantasia that's nothing short of mesmerizing.
