25/swans/to be kind
to be kind makes its intentions clear from the jump. opening track, screen shot, exists in its own screwy headspace for close to two minutes before any humans come forward with something to say. and when they do and he (Michael Gira) does, the words, like the music, are clear, focused, and DIRECT. to be kind follows this template track after track, over the course of 120 minutes, floating in a realm where sharply tuned noise rock can co-exist with epic rock opera leanings and be loud, and unforgiving. for swans, it's a good place to be, and the music excels because of that.
