22/ryan adams/ryan adams
few people can walk you through the highs and lows of being drunk in, down with, or invested in affairs of the heart as vividly as ryan adams. the best thing about album number fourteen from the love addled singer songwriter is how wonderfully accessible both he and this collection of songs are. it's often impossible to listen to a ryan adams song without feeling the weight of the emotion behind the track, and this album largely adheres to that ryan adams blueprint. this time around ryan has maximized his style and execution to its fullest potential, placing it within the confines of the past and present day (and popular) alt-rock canon without losing any of the grit, earnestness, and emotion we've come to expect from him. at the end of the day and these compositions, it's simply ryan, his guitar, and a heavy hopeful heart. it's worked plenty times before, but this time around the foundation is stronger and improved upon.
