Tell it like it is.
05/Jenny Lewis/Acid Tongue
Jenny Lewis has a sharp tongue. An Acid Tongue. And she ain’t afraid to use it. She ain’t afraid to tell you like it is, what it's not, and how it should be. A year or so back there was “blood on her mouth” cause she’d been biting her tongue all week, but not anymore. Her head’s on straight, her mind’s right, and the thoughts and words are clear. Armed and focused like Stevie, Carole, and Joni in their prime, Jenny sits behind the piano, plucks at the guitar, and comes with a delivery shaped by Lil Wayne’s flow (see track six, the bar room 2-Step of See Fernando). No matter the method, no matter the stance, her gun is cocked and loaded, filled with the words she needs to say, those things she wants off her chest, and her Laurel Canyon soliloquies. Nobody likes a liar, and we rarely hear what needs to be heard, and when Jenny sings a song for them (/us), these truths are most definitely reaffirmed.
