24/Deerhunter/Microcastle AND Why?/Alopecia
One week.
Many held on and sat around with bated breath for damn near 15 years for a new collection of full on rock and roll bombast from Guns N Roses. Meanwhile, four lads named Bradford, Lockett, Joshua, and Moses, collectively known to you and me as Deerhunter, thought out, wrote, played, and created this gorgeously hushed and understated collection of 25 songs in one week. Tight, dreamlike, and introspective, the lush melodies of this two-disc set haunts you, soothes you, and connects with you by simply taking its time and echoing sentiments not too foreign to the average human being. The same can be said for its slightly more observant, outspoken, and adventurous cousin/counterpart/partner in crime, Alopecia from Oakland natives Why? Alopecia is a rag-tag hodge-podge collection of boom claks, finger snaps, bleeps and blips that, despite their bombastic pizazz, play second fiddle to the often witty and observational words coming out of Yoni Wolf's mouth. Like Deerhunter’s Microcastle, it plays by its own rules without being off putting or falling off the tracks.
KEY TRACKS: Microcastle: Agoraphobia/ Never Stops/ Nothing Ever Happened
KEY TRACKS: Alopecia: These Few Presidents/The Hollows/A Sky for Shoeing Horses Under
