16/The Kills/Midnight Boom
Magnetism. Some have it, others don’t. That aura, that sparkle, that “je ne sais quoi”.It’s urgent and it’s hypnotizing. Can bring a smile to your face or set your heart in a tizzy. And 9 times out of 10, it’s downright sexy. Take this album for example. Brash, lean, and combative, The Kills latest album Midnight Boom takes the words of the boisterous hook from track two, the sleazy dive joint stomp Cheap and Cheerful to heart ("I want you to be crazy/'Cos you're boring baby when you're straight"), keeping it cool, and refusing to play it straight for the duration of this album’s twelve tracks. Chocked full of pure, unsaturated sex appeal that is downright irresistible, Midnight Boom eyes you seductively from across the room, invades your space, and turns you on, pulling you in with its late night after hours sleaze. Couple this with the bountiful swagger present in every hook and purr of Ms. Allison “VV” Mosshart’s voice and the harmonies she shares with Mr. Jamie “Hotel” Hince, -he with the slick guitar accompaniments on deck- and you too will be keeping it cool and applying the crazy as if that hook in Cheap and Cheerful was intended solely for you. And maybe it is. So light a cigarette, down some whiskey, break out into a sweat, grab an ass, and kiss some lips, “cause its boring baby when you’re straight!”
