Today is September 5th, a day after Labor Day and as noted by my buddy yesterday a collective moan is being echoed by many a student in grades K-12 nationwide. With Labor Day weekend comes the much dreaded day after of starting a new school year and having to come to terms with the fact that your summer vacation has come to an end. Summer stays with us officially til about late September, but that's beside the point for even those out of the educational system see Labor Day weekend as the last hoorah, and prepare themselves for the coming of fall.
In honor of this premptive goodbye to summer I would like to take the time to salute those songs that kept me going while the sun was out and the good times were being had. Today as I was walking through Koreatown I saw a wall of posters for new albums this fall: Beyonce, The Killers, The Roots, Bob Dylan, Basement Jaxx; I mean damn, who isn't releasing a new album this fall? This also meant that summer 06 was all about dropping singles to get the crowd hyped for this fall's new releases. And let's not forget those hits from Spring that stayed relevant and hot well into the summer. So here it is, a new playlist to help us remember the summer that was 06:
