Jay-Z and Nas. Nas and Jay-Z. Jay-Z vs Nas. Nas vs. Jay-Z. Best rapper alive? Who is it? Who knows? But in the meantime let's take a look at two music videos from the hip-hop stars. Unlike most people I am warming to Kingdom Come with repeated spins, and am getting what I guess Jay-Z is trying to do: be comfortable, showboat, gloat, waving his skills in the air while sounding like he just don't care. With Lost One everything locks in nicely [beat, lyrics, emotion], and Jay artfully takes you to the streets, and gets melodramatic with this grown man business. Now look at Nas. He's getting his grown man on too, but in a different way: by dropping knowledge and giving you some al jazeera, City of God type visuals to set against his flow. It's interesting to set two videos against each other and see the flashy rags to riches "saga" set against plight, violence, and doses of reality. Check out how all the other halves live below.
