Beautifully human.

SIXTEEN/THE MAGIC POSITION/PATRICK WOLF

Heavy is the head that wears the crown. The crown of love that is. And few people wear the crown with such forlorn, down on his luck but hoping for the best vigor than Sir Patrick Wolf. [Luckily for him it compliments that heart he wears on sleeve oh so well] Now this might be an odd thing to say seeing as how The Magic Position is sitting pretty at #16 on this here list, but you'd be hard pressed to find many albums this year as gorgeous and emotionally open as this one. 24 year old Mr. Wolf plays the part of the fallen lovesick troubadour quite well, and his need, want, and desire to attain love, maintain love, and simply give a little love, sends him [and his musical accompaniment]soaring to the highest of highs [The showstopping ode to you who vexes me so (in technicolor!) that is the title track. Or the flirty hand in hand hop down lollipop lane that is Get Lost]; then at the drop of hat, that same love can push him 100 ft below, alone to wade in the depths, just him, his yearnings, and his thoughts. [The achingly spare and Marianne Faithfull assisted Magpie or the overcast rain soaked composition that is Augustine] Up or down, high or low, The Magic Position reminds us all that love is indeed a two way street, with all signs leading towards a realm of unpredictability. Don't dwell on it. Don't think too hard. Just walk through the shadows, bathe in the sunshine, and simply get lost...
