One-A-Day! Tauwan's Top 25 Albums of 2007!

From the makers of POP...LIFE!: Tauwan's Top 25 albums of 2006.

SEVENTEEN/+/JUSTICE

"You must have me under a spell. I lose control when you're near..."

Gaspard Augé and Xavier de Rosnay. No two people have been as polarizing as this duo in the 2-double 0 seven, known to we the listening public as Justice. Their live show is shit. D.A.N.C.E. is an unoriginal four minute piece of repetitiveness. And, of course, they're just barging through the door and/or riding in on the waves that Daft Punk opened and set-up for them. Chatter. Chatter. Chatter. Hype. Hype. Hype. Buzz. Buzz. Buzz. Buzz. But what about the music? Like that other French duo with the robotic wardrobe, Justice seem like a band who's truly at home behind the boards, digging through the crates, fiddling with the knobs, and toying with this thing we call sound. Which makes it all the more interesting when you press play on "Cross", cause despite the inclusive of these headphone enthusiasts, everything booms like an 808, or an announcement to played at decibel shattering levels and shouted from the rooftops. Track one, Genesis doesn't just start the disc, it opens it, like an operatic overture roaring loudly like the lion at the top of an MGM movie from back in the day. It's all bass heavy, slinky, head bobbing IMAX 3D glamour. Can you keep up? It seems to be the question Auge and Rosnay have on their mind, cause this album waits for no one. Songs rise and fall, and segue into each other with ease. Let There Be Light fades into the darkness, the knobs turn on your FM dial and D.A.N.C.E. begins. The dark and menacing vocal like groove of Phantom revs up and glides effortlessly into it's equally dark twin counterpart without you even knowing; and the 1-2-3 punch of Valentine, The Party, and DVNO go from soft to harder to faster to stronger, providing you the listener with one of the best mid album trifectas of the year. You'd be a fool to not become a slave to Justice's rhythm. As a matter of fact you have no choice. Press play and give it some time. The rhythm is gonna get you.
