So I don't know if you've heard, but I have been spinning the new Fall Out Boy disc quite often lately. Funny casue during many a Thanksgiving break in Massachusetts this band and their single Sugar We're Going Down [and it's confusing yet can't look away video]was highly unlistenable and would make me angry. With this new turnaround some might say that I am being too kind; I think I've just decided to take off my music-snob glasses, that or I am just gullable. Whatever the case, the boys' new disc Infinity On High has shown that I am not the only not-your-typical-Fall Out Boy fan out there right now. Jay-Z speaks at the beginning and end of track one Thriller, Babyface produced one or two tracks on the disc, and Kanye West recently remixed lead single This Ain't A Scene, It's An Arms Race. Now when I was informed of this remix by a reader of my blog [yes, you do exist] I got really excited. Kanye West remixing a track from one of my cds of the moment? Come on now. Unfortunately I was not impressed. It's pretty much the same song with a generic midtempo knock-bounce that does nothing and goes nowhere.
Aside from Kanye, the boys have also teamed up with Timbaland for his upcoming Shock Value album and while the song is not horrible, upon first listen I don't think it is nowhere near as exciting as it could have been. I'm gonna go ahead and go out on a limb and say that Timbo's joint with Nelly Furtado and JTimb is much better. And after hearing that Hives and Timbaland track also from Shock Value and now this Timbo/Fall Out Boy track, I am hoping he comes with a little harder with She Wants Revenge and all the other people who were happy to log some studio time with Mr. Mosley. Ideas and ambition are nice and all, but they're even better when they work. Just Saying.
