Bang Bang Rock and Roll

Come April, 10 of these albums will be vying for the much coveted Shortlist prize. And the nominees are:

Against Me! - Americans Abroad Live in London
...And You Will Know Us By The Trail of Dead - So Divided [Wow. Have got to be one of the most overated bands I know. Ask me about the time I listened to critics and bought their debut album without hearing of lick of their music. One of the few cds I have attempted to and/or actually did return to the store.]
Art Brut - Bang Bang Rock & Roll [Novelty wears thin quickly from time to time]
Band of Horses - Everything All the Time [Gotta go back and see what all the fuss is about. Mistakenly passed this up at my college radio station?]
Beck - The Information [I can dig it]
Beirut - Gulag Orskestar
Belle and Sebastian - The Life Pursuit [An album even non Belle and Sebastian fans can appreciate. Smart, fun, and poppy]
The Blow - Paper Television [30 minutes of pure electro-dance-pop bliss]
Bonnie "Prince" Billy - The Letting Go
The Bronx - The Bronx
Cat Power – The Greatest [Jenny Lewis was my Cat Power for the end of 2005 and half of 2006. And yes, I think she is gorgeously striking if that makes sense]
Country Teasers - The Empire Strikes Back
CSS - Cansei de Ser Sexy
Cursive - Happy Hollow
Dabrye - Two/Three
Danielson - Ships
Kimya Dawson - Remember That I Love You
Dead Heart Bloom - Dead Hart Bloom
The Decemberists - The Crane Wife [Just can't get myself into it]
Editors - The Back Room
Jeremy Enigk - World Waits
Field Music - Field Music
Forgive Durden - Wonderland
Girl Talk - Night Ripper [I have yet to be really wowed by his mash-ups]
The Gossip - Standing In the Way of Control [Guess I should press play on this one also. Read more quotes and talking points from the lead singer than I hear actual songs by the group]
Hot Chip - The Warning [YES!]
Howling Bells - Howling Bells
The Hush Sound - Like Vines
Kidd Jordan, Hamid Drake + William Parker - Palm of Soul
The Knife - Silent Shout [Again gotta go back. But last time I checked I didn't think much of it as was the case with the Junior Boys' So This is Goodbye]
Liars - Drum's Not Dead [Everytime I see the Liars all I can think of is Spring 2006 in Denmark. My ex-girlfriend and her friends had recently seen the Liars and they did, repeat NOT have good things to say about the show, the band, or their music]
Love Is All - Nine Times That Same Song
Lupe Fiasco - Food & Liquor [Maybe I'm too commercial, but aside from some great singles I see what all the fuss is about here]
Mates of State - Bring It Back [Love that album cover. Bright yet dark]
Matmos - The Rose Has Teeth in the Mouth of a Beast [Sexy and innovative. Definitely give this one a spin]
Mew - And the Glass Hand Kites
Midlake - The Trials of Van Occupanther
Mohair - Small Talk
Mute Math - Mutemath
Joanna Newsom - Ys [Don't even get me started]
OOIOO - Taiga
Peeping Tom - Peeping Tom
The Raconteurs - Broken Boy Soldiers [Good yes, but I like my Jack White front and center in red, black, and/or white]
The Roots - Game Theory [Have yet to give this a spin. That's a goddamn shame]
Secret Machines - Ten Silver Drops [Keep meaning to play it again. Great band, great guys. Sucks that the trio recently lost a band member though]
Serena-Maneesh - Serena-Maneesh [Have yet to listen to Evan's advice and give this a spin]
Skream - Skream
Spank Rock - YoYoYoYoYo [Finally hip-hop that goes outside the box and is homegrown, not bred overseas]
Regina Spektor - Begin to Hope [When am I going to give her a chance? Goddamn shame?]
The Stills - Without Feathers
The Strokes - First Impression of Earth [Largely overlooked. Wonderfully underrated]
Teddybears - Soft Machine
TV on the Radio - Return to Cookie Mountain [Aside from Wolf Like Me, I just can't get myself into it. And I'm 50% blipster]
Vaux - Beyond Virtue Beyond Vice
The Velvet Teen - Cum Laude
Tom Waits - Orphans
We Are Scientists - With Love and Squalor [Good for what it is, but not good enough to surpass some of its competitors]
The Weepies - Say I am You
Wolfmother - Wolfmother [See We Are Scientists]
Yeah Yeah Yeahs - Show Your Bones [Maturity and an expansion of a palette that could have easily been referred to as minimalist and limiting]
Neil Young - Living With War [NO! NO! NO! NOT a good album. Unlistenable for the most part if you ask me]

Best of luck to all of you!
