Uplift. 9 times out of 10 when listening to music, we want to be taken some place higher. We wanna rave unto the joy fantastic, “shake it like a ladder to the sun”, sing/spit at the top of our lungs, and “dance til we’re dead.” Whether we’re a no name Zero, or “dripping in alchemy” and encased in chrome, we come to party, in search of good times, and here in these two tracks lies that escape, that almost spiritual like and euphoric trip to another place, where synths and guitars collide, beats rise in tandem with the emotional rescue found in the lyrics on the page and the energy encapsulated in Karen O’s vocals and the backing of the band. Climb higher, shake it like a ladder to the sun, and dance til your dead; Shut your eyes, do your thang, make the jaws drop. Climb higher and be taken to another place. These two songs wouldn’t have it any other way.
