Love & Happiness.

The Albums: 2009.

22/Peter Bjorn And John/Living Thing

Confession: I’ve never listened to Peter Bjorn And John’s Writer’s Block, or any other album by them that came before it. I did, however, press play on, listen to, and enjoy on multiple occasions the pure pop bliss that was that album’s hit single, Young Folks. Contained within the confines of that song’s four minutes and thirty-nine seconds was crisp, clear production, silent urgency, and genuine, heart on your sleeve emotions we all could relate to. Skip ahead to March 31, 2009, and the Swedish trio have done it again, over the course of an entire album. Living Thing ebbs and flows on a wave of clarity and crisp, clean production, with every boom-clack, clap of the hands, and rumination on love pulsating through your speakers in a manner so crisp, so evocative, so urgent and primal, leaving nothing hidden, or left unsaid. Lying atop the skeletal yet expansive beats and production are equally evocative vocals that help the lyrics jump off the page, and this collection of tales of love, loss, betrayal, and heartbreak come to life. Warm, full, and robust, it’s truly a Living Thing.
