DOO-WOPS & HOOLIGANS: The Albums, 2011.

13/SBTRKT/SBTRKT

Aaron Jerome thrives on anonymity. Hidden from sight via the various ceremonial masks he adorns himself in, and detached from himself while operating under the stage name of the artist presented here, SBTRKT. With his debut, Jerome let’s an overwhelming persona take a backseat to the universal ruminations on affection presented here that need no overshadowing. Consuming inner neuroses that come attached to the trials of the heart are dwelled upon, spoken upon on, and given room to breathe over post-dubstep production that smolders from a largely skeletal framework; With stirring guest vocal turns from the likes of Sampha and Yukimi Nagano of Little Dragon applying that extra piece of emotional gravitas these songs call for. And receives. Which is why Jerome steps back and simply lets the music of SBTRKT speak for itself.
