So yeah, I went ahead and did it. I got my hands on Diddy's new album Press Play. Yeah, it's not the best album in the world [duh], but it ain't all crap either, largely due to the fact that the album can't go 30 seconds without showcasing a voice that ain't Diddy's. The main problem with the album is simply this: nothing really stands out. It's one of those albums you can play over and over agin hoping that the desire to press play pops in your head somewhere down the road, but it doesn't. You find yourself stuck playing the singles as I did with Come to Me becuase that song goes hard, I don't give a fuck what anybody says. And then I found a track near the end of the disc with Keyshia Cole. It seemed to fully encompass the late night, 80's dance vibe Diddy tried to sprinkle here and there throughout the album. All the elements work, the drawn out vocal-less intro that gives the track time to breathe, bounce, and grab your attention, right on down to Diddy's wannabe robotic singing on the hook, a hook so simple in that it comes and goes without distraction. And then there's Keyshia, wailing on the verses and the bridge, along with some deep rooted ad-libbing here and there. Pure fire baby. This is pretty much her song. Somebody connect her with Basement Jaxx's people stat.
