"BANDZ A MAKE HER DANCE!": The Albums, 2012

22/Beach House/BLOOM

BLOOM. In which our two protagonists Victoria Legrand and Alex Scally continue to navigate and explore the art of mating, and all of the corresponding intricacies of its rhyming co-conspirator that starts with a d. Conversations of the adult variety remain constant, familiar, and clear. Clear as the crisp majestic backdrops provided by Mssr. Scally and Madame Legrand. With each album, the Bmore duo expand upon their patented burgeoning brand of  baroque dream pop to create these sprawling, evocative backdrops for their tales of unraveling hearts, troublemakers, other people, and momentary bliss. Bloom is epic grandiosity, and it is often these moments in which the album truly sparkles, as the music opens and expands like the chambers of the heart to further speak on the matters at hand. (See the EPIC instant classic of an opener that is "Myth", the final acts of "On the Sea" and "Irene" or the booming bridges of "Lazuli" and "Irene"). Bloom is simply gorgeous. As grand and universal as the mating waters these two continue to navigate and attempt to fully comprehend.
