Like many of us, Charli XCX is a dreamer out here in the atmosphere just wanting to let her hair down and disappear, spread her wings, and fly. Luckily for us, this act of letting her hair down and flying away to a place of euphoria entails bringing us along for the ride via a collection of bangers. And on Number 1 Angel, the ride is divine, and the task of dropping tracks that bang is never ending. Over the course of this 40 minute mixtape, Charli is your girl, here to soundtrack her (and your) life in the daydream, and the moments held that we can't let slip away. Over your vanity, and not wanting to care anymore, Charli gives in to one of the unspoken, universally known rules of pop music: make it fun (and, if you can, go big). Number 1 Angel, like the woman behind it, is up for a boomin' good time, and refuses to dance alone, as it chases highs, rolls with the homies, and engages in trysts and travails with boys who play too much or won't play at all. Beneath it all is a collection of glossy tracks that boom like an 808, nodding to hip-hop, R&B, house, and club music effortlessly, often within one track.
