DON'T LOOK BACK IN ANGER : THE ALBUMS, 2017.

He took a little time off and took the band with him. And when he returned and got the gang back together, they did not put their name in lights or pull out the bullhorn and chose to, instead, place the marquee in the heavens, on cloud nine: LCD SOUNDSYSTEM presents their AMERICAN DREAM, aka one of 2017's greatest shows on earth, immaculately sequenced and brought to you in an album format. And there's something "spectacular! spectacular!" about this American Dream showcase. In the way it plays and presents itself with a confident urgency as if James and company never left. Up on cloud nine the party continues, as American Daydream plays and moves like a live album produced from a place that you HAVE to be at, while reminding you that you SHOULD be dancing. From the slow burning opener that sets the table for the ramshackle dance numbers that immediately follows it, revving up the engine as the band's new disco grooves and cathartic energy pushes and pulls you towards a higher ground til things eventually draw to a close, wordlessly, leaving you there to sweat it out and dry off as the album's closing minutes fade out like the end to a raucous encore or party you wish will never end. But they do. And when the music fades and the lights come up here, you are reminded that a little time away did nothing to diminish the technical prowess, wit, and emotional rescue that we've come to know and love (and expect) from LCD Soundsystem. So let's raise a toast to the bodies in here, and thank them for the triumphant return that is their American Dream.
