BOUND: The Albums, 2013.

21/Tegan & Sara/Heartthrob

Earlier this year we learned that Taylor Swift is a fan of this record. And if you, like me, have spent a large amount of 2013 with this album in heavy rotation, then Taylor Swift’s fandom should come as no surprise, as Heartthrob is comprised of 10 synthpop ear worms that Taylor probably wishes she wrote herself. Heartthrob, like the collected works of Ms. Swift, Queen of Hearts both broken and unbroken, is finely attuned to the universal ins and outs of navigating and existing within romantic entanglements and courtship. This time around though, the music is brighter and the hooks abundant, but the heart and soul of the sisters Quin’s body of work are still in tact, as these romantic vignettes are as honest and exploratory (and plenty relatable) as all Quin sister compositions that came before it. And like many heartthrobs before it, Tegan & Sara’s seventh album is one attractive piece of work, worthy of anyone's affection.
