SOUND & COLOR: THE ALBUMS, 2015.

13/deerhunter/fading frontier

there was an accident. an earth shattering, life altering accident. and as is the case with most tragic or horrific events, it forced the master of ceremonies here to sit still and often be left alone with nothing more than his thoughts, with an emphasis on recovery and a recharge.

fading frontier is a piece of this recovery. for a minute now I’ve come to deerhunter to indulge in the queer. rock that’s off the beaten path with no desire to walk a straight line. and while there is plenty of that here, the tone has shifted slightly, and the veil of secrecy has been lifted. the deerhunter of fading frontier is here in the moment, asking direct questions, and seeking immediate clarity. it is an incredibly grounded album, and another reminder of why deerhunter continues to be one of the best bands around.
