3/Bat for Lashes/Daniel
Here’s a little story that must be told, and it goes a little something like this…
A girl, alone, in love, in lust, in HEAT, on the run, in search of that boy, her Daniel; He who, when she first saw him, had a flame in his heart. “And under our blue skies”, she sings, as the synths, bass, and swelling instrumentation simmers beneath her. “Marble movie skies, I found a home in your eyes. We’ll never be apart.” Again, this girl’s in love. This heart’s on fire. And it’s quite sad that she can’t have what she wants. But then that beat kicks in, that slick repetitive percussion holding hands with those menacing strings, and things feel triumphant, joyful even, as if a turn for the better is right around the corner, as Natasha Khan runs in the dark, to a place that’s vast, where she can dream of that home that resides in sharing (and having) his heart. This heart’s on fire. This love once found and now lost shall, and must, return. This gorgeously immaculate lamentation wouldn’t have it any other way.
