WOODIE! WOODIE! WOODIE! WOODIE ROCKING EVERYWHERE!
So MTV has this channel they like to call MTVU and on my small college in a little New England town we as students were fortunate enough to get our view on when we weren't busy watching MTV proper, VH1, BET, or MTV2. [Or accidently forgetting the channel existed.] It's all what college students are listening to mixed with some CBS Evening News like bits, and episodes of the Real World and Road Rules...from the mid 90's, which is fine by me cause Real World Seattle was my shit!
And it wouldn't be an MTV subsidiary without it's own award show right? So here they are, the nominees for MTVU's 3rd annual Woodie Awards, and what do you know VMA darlings Panic! At the disco are up for the top award [Woodie of the Year. God I didn't know college kids listened to so much emo music. [They don't.] I just graduated from college in May and spent a fair amount of time flipping through the airwaves and I know I am not the only one who would try to give many of these videos a chance, only to give up and realize that I am wasting my time. Right? Big Ups on Gogol Bordello, Jenny Lewis, The Raconteurs, Fiona Apple, Arctic Monkeys [sorry I like the disc, particularly the first half], Gnarls Barkley, and Wolfmother. Oh and Chamillionaire of course. And props also for mentioning Juvenille's Katrina efforts. Now if we could only get more people to bump his Reality Check album. That shit is fire. No joke. Start to finish.
