I can make it good, I can make it hood, I can make you come, I can make you go! I can make it high, I can make it fly, make you touch the sky, hey maybe so!
I like Gossip Girl. Victor does not. It's too safe. The girls ain't that pretty. And why would a young Mexican fella from the hood want to watch the life and times of "pretty little rich" girls on the Upper East/Westside? Plus he's watching this show - which I had the pleasure of being introduced to last night - and it pretty much trumps anything they show on Gossip Girl.
Last weekend. A Sunday. Hungover as all hell. But it's cool, it's Sunday. Too many channels, not enough content. All else has failed. MTV Hits/Jams/Videos it is. Outkast. So Fresh, So Clean. Damn. Been way too long since I've played this/seen this/grooved to this. And boy do they seem to be having a lot of fun. And so am I. These dudes. I swear man. They hardly, if ever, disappoint. Let me go and press play on some ATLiens shit right now.
There's something wonderfully hypnotic about this disc right here. I don't know what it is? Maybe it's the late night after hours sex appeal; so open, so not put on, so fresh, that ropes me in. Or maybe it's the bountiful swagger present in every hook and purr of Ms. VV's voice and the harmonies she shares with Hotel. White lines, whiskey soaked jeans, the burnt haze of cigarette smoke, sultry whispered come hithers, stop and go movements, bands on the run; this imagery is all so cool, and could easily be soundtracked by the 12 songs present on this disc. You might slip up and mistake it all for sleaze, but you'd be wrong, cause it ain't. It's just all so damn cool. They should bottle this shit up and patent it. KEY TRACKS: Cheap and Cheerful/Last Day of Magic/Goodnight Bad Morning
Okay, so this is still pretty awesome. "More glam and glitz were on hand at Pussycat Dolls creator Robin Antin’s closing Smashbox show for her lingerie line called Shhh...Also in the audience were Sean “P Diddy” Combs, Quincy Jones, Dr. Dre, and Chelsea Korka from Antin’s first TV show, The Pussycat Dolls Present: The Search for the Next Doll (she tells us that even though she lost on the show, Antin signed her to another group, the Paradiso Girls, and she is releasing a disc on Interscope next year)..."
Dear Robin Antin,
Stop. Please, just stop. The Pussycat Dolls, Girlicious, and now the Paradiso Girls? DAMN GIRL! Slow your row...Jesus.
"I just had a panic attack which is so stupid. really. 33 years old and I still have f’n panic attacks. i feel okay now. i think i just needed to crap and also i was really hungry at the same time, which is gross, i know, but you know, that shit happens. woah. why would anyone say this on a blog/ i like this valerian root tea i got at whole foods. it is very chill. like drugs but minus the whole feeling of being on or near drugs, so in fact, nothing like drugs...."
ladies and gentlemen I present to you Ryan Adams: the blogger.
Little known fact: that first Cut Copy album? Did [does] nothing for me. Perhaps I should revisit it, cause this new track, Far Away, off their upcoming Tim Goldsworthy of DFA fame produced album In Ghost Colours is kinda off the chain. Press play and get lost. It'll do ya good.
I'm Not Gonna Teach Your Boyfriend How to Dance With You.
Black Kids.
Version 3*.
*Version 1 would be the initial rough demo of the song, and version 2 would be the more polished studio edit released onto the public a week or so ago.
I fucks with this shit right here. Time to Pretend pulled me in, but the remaining nine tracks kept me around, and keep calling me back. And I think we all know how I feel about Kevin Barnes and the boys in Of Montreal. Put the two together? I don't think I'm ready for that jelly.
FILE UNDER: A Moment of Clarity/PRIMARIES: So fucking Disco!
"America's political story is studded with such addresses -- historical signposts that divide that which went before from all that followed on an issue of crucial national importance. Franklin Roosevelt's "The only thing we have to fear is fear itself" speech fundamentally changed Americans' expectations of their government in times of social and economic crisis. John F. Kennedy's address on Catholicism and politics to the Greater Houston Ministerial Assn. in 1960 forever altered the way we think about religion and public office. Sen. Barack Obama, another lanky lawyer from Illinois, planted one of those rhetorical markers in the political landscape Tuesday, when he delivered his "More Perfect Union" speech in Philadelphia, near Independence Hall...instead of offering a simple exercise in damage control, Obama chose to place his discussion of the Rev. Jeremiah A. Wright's incendiary comments in a wider consideration of race in America -- and the results were, like those Kennedy achieved in Houston, historic..."
All the bloggers were posting it. All the news shows were showing it. The younger lawyer and I? He and I were discussing it. But I had yet to see it. I took no time to read it. And my ears had yet to catch the rhetoric. But I knew, I just knew that I needed to experience it. I just had to, had to, read it. This morning when I grabbed the paper, my eyes widened with delight. Barack Obama front and center, investigative reporting beneath him to the left, primo quote from his speech beneath him to the right. I had to leave the paper home so that others could take some time to read, but rest assured it was in the back of my head all day. I knew, just knew, that a transcript of the speech would be embedded somewhere deep in the paper. And it was. Page A10. Barack Obama at the podium front and center, investigative article beneath him to the left, transcript of "A More Perfect Union" beneath him to the right. Between sets I picked up the paper, back and forth, forth and back. Maybe it was the exercise and the blood flowing through my veins? Or maybe it was the emotional clarity pouring from the speakers courtesy of Lupe Fiasco'sThe Cool? But I finished that damn speech, took a step back, and felt a lump in my throat. It moved me in its simplicity; it got me; struck a nerve; And I'm glad it finally hit me, cause it was definitely something I had needed to hear...
"He said, I write what I see Write to make it right, don't like what I be I like to make it like the sights on TV Quite the great life so nice and easy, See, now you can still die from that But it's better than not being alive from straps. Agreed, a Mead notebook and a Bic that click when its pushed and a whack ass beat. That's a track thats weak that he got last week 'Cause everybody in the studio's like that's that heat A bass-heavy medley with a sample from the 70s with a screwed up hook that went "Stack that cheese" Somethin somethin somethin "Stack that cheese" Mother sister cousin "Stack that cheese" He couldn't think of nothin' "Stack that cheese" He turns down the beat, writter's block impedes Cryin' from the next room a baby in need of some pampers and some food and a place to sleep That plus a black Cadillac on D's Is what keeps him on track to be a great emcee. Yeah..."
You know, you would think that a music fan such as myself would be all "bout it, bout it" when it comes to the Coachella Arts and Music Festival, but, I'm not. But this rumor? This rumor right here? It could maybe, just maybe, make me change my mind.
This is just in: if you're into buying albums legally and don't really need a case, head on over to iTunes where this album is currently for sale, ahead of it's original release date no?
