How to get rich without really trying [in Hip-Hop]:
(1) Roll in the whip like Kimora Lee Simmons,
(2) Chill in the streets of "Crooklyn",
(3) Mix T-Boz and Keyshia Cole in a pitcher, add two cups Ashanti, mix to desire,
(4) Street 'lympics,
(5) Insert mini "Hood Movie" in the middle.
(4) Lather, rinse, repeat.

Fantasia.
You know, for a minute there I was worried about how certain producers and people on high would handle Ms. Hudson's album, and voice, but so far, so good. You're three for three girl. Keep up the good work!

Inquiring minds over at Jezebel [in conjuction with the folks over at Racialicious and What Tami Said] would like to know:
"What's The Difference Between Inspiration & Insult?"
Jezebel reports:
"Recently, a reader sent an email asking, "Were you not as disturbed by American Apparel's new clothing line, Afrika, as I was?" Well, yeah. There are many irritating things about American Apparel and calling some zebra print leggings "Afrikan" (with the colonial K) is just one of them. But when it comes to cultural appropriation, there are fine lines between homage, inspiration and insult, points out Tami on Racialicious. If you're rubbed the wrong way by the AA leggings, should you also be offended by Madonna's bindis, Gwen Steafani's Harajuku Girls, or Amy Winehouse's hijacking the song stylings of black female soul and blues singers?"
Meanwhile I ask: Color? Race? Ethnicity? Cultural Appropriation? I know not of these these things you speak of.

REMEMBER ME?
Eminem. Remember him? Remember how if he wasn't busy getting accolades for his talented, overflowing wordplay, he was busy getting attention/pissing people off/or foaming at the mouth with his genuine ridiculousness? Were you a fan of that Slim Shady? Cause if so, boy do I have a track for you.

If you watched the VMAs last week you no doubt saw me. And saw me in my Respect My Vote! t-shirt. The reason I wore that shirt is the reason I'm writing to you today.
Respect My Vote! isn't just some words on a t-shirt. It's a movement that I and so many others like Keyshia Cole, Chris Brown, Nelly, Omar Epps, Bow Wow, Ray J, Sean Kingston, Maino, Wale and the Simmons Sisters believe in. We believe in voting. And since I can't vote in this election, I've made it my mission to get as many people to register and vote this year as possible.
Working with the Hip Hop Caucus, I have dedicated myself to making this happen and I am asking you to help me.
I challenge you to:

And now, the Church of England would like to stand up and say a few words regarding apologies, forgiveness, and Charles Darwin.
CNN reports:
"The Church of England owes Charles Darwin an apology for its hostile 19th-century reaction to the naturalist's theory of evolution, a cleric wrote on an Anglican Web site launched Monday.
The Rev. Malcolm Brown, who heads the church's public affairs department, issued the statement to mark Darwin's bicentenary and the 150th anniversary of the seminal work "On the Origin of Species," both of which fall next year.
Brown said the Church of England should say it is sorry for misunderstanding him at the time he released his findings and, "by getting our first reaction wrong, encouraging others to misunderstand (Darwin) still."
The Church of England said Brown's statement reflected its position on Darwin but did not constitute an official apology.
The church's stance sets it apart from fundamentalist Christians, who believe evolutionary theory is incompatible with the biblical story of the Earth's creation."

FILE UNDER: PRIMARIES: Out of the Races & Onto the Tracks!/A Moment of Clarity./One Pure Thought.
"Sarah Palin has done for the gop what 10 male candidates, nearly two years and $300 million had failed to accomplish: she has boosted excitement, crowds and campaign coffers virtually overnight. She has lifted McCain in the polls, has put Obama into confusion and is living out a Cinderella story unlike any other in recent political history, though the ending is still a slipper of uncertainty. Even Palin seems astonished by it all. Gazing out at thousands from a platform in Sterling Heights, Mich., she shakes her head, dumbfounded for a moment as the crowd chants her name. Her mouth forms a word, mumbled silently to herself: "Wow," she says.
The Palin effect is already measurable. Since McCain tapped her in the days before the St. Paul, Minn., convention, national polls show that McCain has drawn even with Obama in most head-to-head surveys and pulled ahead in several. At the same time, white women have swung away from Obama by as much as 20 points. For months, McCain badly trailed in this group--a warning sign, since George W. Bush won among white women in 2004. But a new CNN/TIME/Opinion Research poll reveals McCain has opened up double-digit leads among this group in the swing states of Virginia, Missouri and Michigan. Charollet Schworer, a retired third-grade teacher from Kentucky who voted twice for Bill Clinton, traveled to Lebanon, Ohio, in a Windbreaker patterned with the American flag. "I sat there, tears rolling down my face, watching my TV," she says of Palin's speech at the Republican Convention. "I felt energized, truly energized for the first time."

Real Talk: The Straight Talk Express Edition.
My 5-7 PM post work news block went a little differently yesterday afternoon. Turning on my television I was met not by the quick witted, tongue-lashing reporting of Mr. Keith Olbermann, but by the calmer, smooth talking clarity of John McCain.
And I didn’t turn the channel, turn my television off, and/or look away.
Yes, you read that right.
We are now seven years removed from the September 11th attacks, and on September 11th, 2008, both candidates, Barack and McCain, decided to cut the snark, pull back the ads, and focus on the issues and the American public. I hope a lot of you were watching, cause for the first time in a minute we all got a glimpse into the positive, “let’s talk about the issues and what I am about” side of both campaigns; a move away from the ATTACK! ATTACK! ATTACK! REPEAT! REPEAT! REPEAT!
Now I can take the road most traveled and post and discuss Obama’s Q&A, but I’m gonna pat John McCain on the back instead. I may not agree and/or believe in all or most of what he stands for [hell I probably won’t even vote for him and Palin in November], BUT, last night Mr. McCain was affable, charismatic, spoke with clarity, cracked a joke or two, and showed an improvement on speeches and talks past, and reminded me of why so many people get/got caught up in his Straight Talk Express.
Most importantly, as stated earlier, we got back to the issues. No lipstick, no pit pulls, no bridges to nowhere, no talk of Mavericks and Moses, just the issues and the American public. For a minute there they lost themselves and I forgot what either or them truly stood for [both he and Palin], but not last night, for yesterday dirty, vacant, vicious politics took a back seat and straight talk took the wheel.
That's what's up!

Poppin'.
While vacationing in the STL this past Labor Day Weekend, I got to rekindle my love affair with popular Hip-Hop and R&B. [Lots of riding in cars. Lots of listening to the radio] And when the radio wasn't busy playing any track that they wanted to off The Carter III, they were busy playing David Banner and Chris Brown all day, and/or this track presented below.

*[ED.'S NOTE: On the first few listens I could have sworn that I was hearing Sean Kingston and F-A-B-O-L-O-U-S! on the hook.]

Sarah Palin. Sarah, Sarah Palin. You can bask in the power of her "greatness", but you can't ask her shit. You're supposed to sit, back, relax and watch as her image, family, and soundbites infiltrate the airwaves, but immediately call foul when the Dems patron saint gets some airtime to showcase his image, ideals, family, and/or soundbites. She can put herself out there as the one we will need to call on in case of emergency should she land in the White House come January, but you're still not allowed to say ANYTHING negative about her race, sex, lifestyle choices, parenting skills, political history, or, as stated earlier, dig beneath the surface of what she and the Republican party chooses to give to you. After all, when you offend offend Sarah Palin, you're offending hardworking mothers trying to "make a dollar out of fifteen cents" eveywhere.
And if you can't respect women, then you obviously have no business running for the highest seat in office, right?

I shouldn't like this shirt for a number of reasons, with reason number one being, well, I don't care for Abercrombie and Fitch. Then again I am a young black male from the hood, A&F was largely foreign to me up until college time. But yeah. Am I Fiscally Republican? No. I'm more broke twenty-something living paycheck to paycheck. I am socially democrat though. Sexually Liberal? Come on now. Is that even a question? Just not so sure if the folks over at Abercrombie and Fitch are. Unless they think those homoerotic photos of fit, athletic looking young white males is "sexually liberal". Yeah. Not really. Aids in that whole lust and desire of dudes and bros by closeted young men in America though, right?* Whatever. "I DON'T KNOW WHAT I'M SAYING!"

I nearly lost my shit last night/earlier this morning when this episode graced my bedroom television screen. I mean this episode had it all: an exploration of Rachel's short-lived culinary career [what it do Rachel's Place!] in the form of her catering Maxine's party, Maxine, kids crashing parties and spiking punch, near death experiences, tight rope walking [Rachel saving drunk Urk], drunk Urkel, and an afterschool special undertone in the form of Laura taking a stance against teenage drinking. Damn. That's what's up!

Rock the Shocker!
So I'm doing my best to catch up on all this RNC mumbo jumbo, cut out the snark, and stay informed; And though I may have missed Sarah Palin's speech last night, I can't seem to escape her image, key parts of her speech, or ideals today. I also can't help but notice that this chick has got the folks on the floor of the RNC excited as all hell, throwing up gang signs - ED.'S NOTE: no joke. did y'all see that shit during Guiliani's speech? hands in the air were looking too close to the sign for that gang The Game associates himself with from time to time - , raising cowboy hats, and screaming her name as if she was running for President. In fact it almost seems as if (a) McCain's campaign is finally gaining some momentum, and (b) People are gonna vote just to see more of her ass, regardless of the fact that McCain will be the one who gets the big seat in the end.
-Sigh- Big ups McCain?
I don't know dawg.
Looks like things are getting interesting again. And here I was thinking that the DNC was gonna be a tough act to follow...
GOOGLE NEWS RESULTS: Sarah Palin

Double Up!*
Pitchfork: Other than the heavy metal influences that you mentioned earlier, are there any new directions or left turns that people might not be expecting?
Alexis Taylor [of Hot Chip]: There's one that is kind of wrestling with the idea of making an R. Kelly kind of slick r&b number, but it maybe ends up sounding more like Randy Newman's "Short People". Maybe that's the strange turn.
Pitchfork: Which song is that?
AT: That's "Wrestlers".
New flava in ya ear!
Hot Chip.
Wrestlers.
*[ED.'S NOTE: Keep an ear out for the R.Kelly nod in the track!]

As the days get long, and we see a rise in temperatures, how many bitches want to touch this n****a name Snoo- ah hem, I mean we should take the time to relax the mind, let the conscious be free, and indulge in the tunes best fit for chilling, dranking, and in the words of Magic Johnson, "having a good time..."
Ain't that right Bob Marley and L. Boogie?

You know, music video channels are a lot like radio stations. It's cool for a minute, but after a while you gotta turn the channel, or put on something else as the songs begin to repeat themselves. But sometimes, a track or two comes on that makes you sit up in silence and appreciate the taste of something new, as was the case this past weekend when this video appeared on the fam's television screen.

So last night was my last night in St. Louis. It was a night the ended with me lifted and tilted off that yak in my cousins's family room den while watching this. I feel this scene presented below perfectly encapsulates the essence of my St.Louis Labor Day Weekend trip for cousin Jason's wedding.*

Me First and the Gimme Gimmes.
Pussycat Doll Kimberly Wyatt [ED.'S NOTE: I know, I know, who?] on the Dolls' upcoming sophomore album, Doll Domination:
"...[We've] messed around with a lot of different genres...The sound is something different than we've really done before, it's a little more Coldplay-ish. It's kinda got an indie-rock vibe."
Yeah Yeah Yeah. I'll believe it when I hear it.
